This morning we noted via an L.A. Times report, that the Vince Vaughn-lead, Ron Howard-produced infidelity comedy had a title in, “Your Cheating Heart.”
We also discovered in that article that on-the-rise comedian, Ed Helms (“The Hangover,” “The Office,” the upcoming comedy “Cedar Rapids”) was circling the project for a moment, but seems to have left it for a Steve Carell-esque bumbling accountant-becomes-spy film called, “Central Intelligence.”
No quicker than Helms’ exit comes news that Vaughn has found a new partner for the film in, Kevin James (“Paul Blart: Mall Cop” the upcoming Adam Sandler comedy, “Grown Ups”).
The film centers on a man who finds out his best friend’s wife is cheating, only to struggle with what to do with the knowledge. Deadline reports that the casting is flipped though. Or at least flipped from what you’d imagine. Vaughn plays the friend struggling with the information and James plays the husband who has no clue what’s going on (Deadline doesn’t reference the title that the L.A. Times reported however, maybe it’s still untitled?).
Based off an idea by Brian Grazer, produced by Vaughn and Imagine Entertainment and adapted into a script by Allan Loeb (“Wall Street 2“), Howard is actually directing this one too. It’ll be his first comedy since 200o’s “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” which was more of a family film and not really that funny to begin with. His last successful comedy however was 1988’s “Parenthood” which still holds up as a great film (one could also argue that it’s Howard’s last great directorial effort).
Loeb is very in-demand these days and wrote Oliver Stone’s “Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps,” the 2009 Black List favorite “The Baster,” and has also been tapped to write the “Escape from New York” reboot as well as several other projects. Last we heard this would shoot next year.
Let's hope it's more Doug Hefernan, and less Paul Blart.
