‘Bobby Meritorious’: Robert De Niro To Star In New Paramount+ Series From Writer Billy Ray

Last month, we saw the news that Robert De Niro was making the leap into the realm of TV with the new series, “Zero Day,” on Netflix. Well, it seems as if the legendary actor is ready to keep that TV trend going with yet another new show. This time, he’s set to star in the Paramount+ series, “Bobby Meritorious.”

According to Deadline, Robert De Niro is set to star in the upcoming Paramount+ crime drama series, “Bobby Meritorious.” The series hails from writer-creator Billy Ray and will have De Niro play informant Avery “The Sage” Accomando, who can singlehandedly bring down the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of New York. But standing in his way is a cop-turned-prosecutor known as Bobby Meritorious.

As mentioned, De Niro just announced his first series regular work on “Zero Day,” but with TV projects nabbing all sorts of A-listers, it was really only a matter of time before we saw him fully jump into this serialized storytelling pool. Billy Ray is probably best known as the writer of films such as “Captain Phillips,” “Richard Jewell,” and “Hunger Games.” He’s also worked on series such as “The Last Tycoon” and “The Comey Rule.”

It’s unclear when production might begin on “Bobby Meritorious” or how it might fit into De Niro’s now-busy schedule. However, this is a huge “get” for Paramount+, as the streaming service goes through a bit of an early renovation thanks to the integration with Showtime. The streamer is still trying to compete with the likes of Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+, Peacock, and more.
