While it might not be the most anticipated film of 2023, there are a lot of folks interested in seeing what exactly is going on with the upcoming “Barbie” film. When you see the film is going to star Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, respectively, people are going to be happy, but not shocked. However, the reveal that Greta Gerwig is directing and co-wrote the feature alongside Noah Baumbach created a lot of intrigue. Why would those incredibly respected filmmakers find themselves attached to “Barbie,” of all things? We’re about to find out.

As seen in the trailer for “Barbie,” the film definitely tells the story of a plastic doll in a bright, vividly colored world, as you might expect. And there are plenty of jokes to be told, as well. However, you can definitely tell there’s something a bit more intelligent going on here. Something that makes you think that maybe Gerwig has some tricks up her sleeve and is delivering a film that is more than a cash-grab IP project. Are we all actually hyped about “Barbie?” Yes, yes, we are.
Sure, “Barbie” has a recognizable IP and two major leading stars, Robbie and Gosling, as well as award-winning filmmakers like Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach. But adding to the intrigue is the absolutely stacked supporting cast that includes Will Ferrell, Simu Liu, America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey, Alexandra Shipp, Michael Cera, Issa Rae, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Rhea Perlman, Kate McKinnon, Dua Lipa, and more.
