Phase 5 of the MCU finally gets underway next month with “Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania.” And while it remains unclear how much that movie sets up the rest of the MCU’s next chapter, Marvel fans anticipate Phase 5 will bring its fair share of changes. For example, take “Captain America: New World Order,” which sees Anthony Mackie‘s Sam Wilson officially take over the shield and helmet from Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers.
Now Deadline reports that another actress joins that film’s loaded ensemble. Xosha Roquemore joins Mackie, Tim Blake Nelson, Harrison Ford, Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, and Shira Haas as the latest member of the “New World Order” cast. No word on who Roquemore plays, but it’s biggest role of the up-and-comer’s career so far.
Mackie as Captain America isn’t the only character swap ahead in “New World Order.” Ford takes over the role of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross after William Hurt passed away last year; he’ll also reprise the role in “Thunderbolts,” another Phase 5 film out next summer. Meanwhile, Nelson reprises his role as Samuel Sterns from 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk,” and Ramirez and Lumbly return as Joaquin Torres and Isaiah Bradley from “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier.” Haas plays Sabra, a mutant in the Marvel comics who works for the Israeli secret service.
As for Roquemore, her recent work includes “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” “Sherman’s Showcase,” “Black Monday,” and the hit FX series “Atlanta.“
No plot details for “New World Order,” but Julius Onah directs the film from a script by Malcolm Spellman & Dalan Musson. Marvel currently slates the film’s theatrical release for May 3, 2024.
