‘They Cloned Tyrone’: Watch First Footage For Netflix Sci-Fi Comedy Starring Jamie Foxx, John Boyega & Teyonah Parris

Oscar-winning actor Jaime Foxx (“Miami Vice,” “Ray“) has been working on a regular basis with Netflix on action pics like “Project Power” and the recent vampire action-comedy “Day Shift.” Foxx will continue that genre run at the streaming giant with the science fiction comedy “They Cloned Tyrone,” which co-stars familiar faces such as John Boyega (“Star Wars: The Force Awakens“) and Teyonah Parris (“The Marvels,” “Wandavision“) taking main roles.

During this weekend’s big Netflix event, Tudum, the streamer has revealed the first-look footage from “They Cloned Tyrone,” a visually striking pic that features some impressive costume designs alongside a cheeky tone.

The upcoming original hails from director Juel Taylor, who also co-wrote the script with Tony Rettenmaier. Taylor’s previous writing credits include Michael B. Jordan‘s boxing drama “Creed II” and “Space Jam: A New Legacy.”

Here is a synopsis for “They Cloned Tyrone”:

“A pulpy, sci-fi mystery caper in which an unlikely trio investigates a series of eerie events, alerting them to a nefarious conspiracy lurking directly beneath their hood. Fontaine (Boyega), a neighborhood drug dealer, is shot dead by rival Isaac and then is very shocked to wake up in his bed the next morning unharmed. He and Slick Charles (Foxx) and Yo-Yo (Parris) begin looking into the incident, and their search eventually leads them to a vast underground complex where a government-backed lab is performing experiments on the local Black population. Realizing that he is an artificial clone controlled by Nixon, Fontaine initially feels despair, but decides he needs to stand up to these white institutional overlords for the sake of his neighborhood.”

Netflix is set to release the sci-fi comedy sometime in 2023. You can see the first trailer below.
