Got a Tip?

‘Horizon’: Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington & Jamie Campbell Bower Join Kevin Costner’s Passion Project

After years of development, Kevin Costner readies his passion project “Horizon” for production soon. It’s Costner’s first film since 2003’s “Open Range,” and he aims for the project to be a trilogy, or possibly even four films. And the massive undertaking is right in Costner’s wheelhouse, as it’s a sweeping chronicle of the settlement of the American West over a 15-year span, including the American Civil War. That’s great news for fans of Costner’s 1990 epic “Dances With Wolves.

For a project this expansive, Costner needs an ensemble just as big. Now there’s word on who will be part of that cast list. Deadline reports that Sienna Miller and Sam Worthington will join Costner to star in “Horizon.” The new comes days after “Stranger Things” star Jamie Campbell Bower announced he was part of the cast on an episode of Jimmy Fallon‘s “Tonight Show.” Obviously, more names will be announced in the coming weeks, but that trio shows Costner’s off to a good start.

“I am very excited and humbled to go on this incredible and important journey with Kevin, who is one of the industry’s finest and inspiring storytellers,” said Worthington on the “Horizon.” Worthington stars next in James Cameron‘s hotly anticipated “Avatar: The Way Of Water,” in theaters this December. As for Miller, she just wrapped filming on Kristen Scott Thomas‘s directorial debut “My Mother’s Wedding.” Other recent projects include Netflix‘s “Anatomy Of A Scandal” limited series and the Channel 4 series “Chivalry.” Meanwhile, Bower arguably stole the latest season of “Stranger Things” as Vecna. He also recently finished work on “True Haunting,” a film about the first televised exorcism in 1971.

Despite only three films as a director, Costner’s had massive success behind the camera. “Dances With Wolves” won seven Oscars at the 63rd annual Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. “Open Range” was also a critical success. However, Costner’s film between those two, 1997’s “The Postman,” was an unmitigated disaster. Critics and audiences hated it equally, making a mere $20 million at the box office off an $80 million budget.

The scope of “Horizon” may be epic, but Costner’s been developing it for a long time. One trusts he’ll make a film trilogy as resonant as “Dances With Wolves.” Production on the film starts soon, so godspeed on this gigantic project, Mr. Costner.
