Rob Zombie clearly loves “The Munsters.” From his music, with all of its allusions to the classic TV sitcom, to his film work, which is influenced by his love of campy horror, Zombie obviously loves the stuff. So, it makes complete sense that the filmmaker would be the guy to make the latest feature film adapting “The Munsters.” And judging by the “teaser,” Zombie is not straying too far from the source material for his feature adaptation.
On social media, Zombie recently shared the first teaser trailer for his feature adaptation of “The Munsters.” It’s very much a teaser, as it just basically recreates the classic opening of the sitcom, but with the new cast that the filmmaker has hired to bring it to life. Honestly, if you were expecting anything else than what is shown in the clip, you’re crazy, as it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Zombie would be incredibly faithful to the ‘60s sitcom about a monster-filled family and their suburban life.
The new version of “The Munsters” stars a bunch of Zombie veterans including Sheri Moon Zombie, Jeff Daniel Phillips, Daniel Roebuck, Richard Brake, and Sylvester McCoy. Again, this is nothing shocking, as the filmmaker consistently goes back to his favorite actors for whatever new project he’s working on. And to be fair, these folks certainly look the part, though we only get to see Sheri Moon Zombie, Jeff Daniel Phillips, and Daniel Roebuck in the teaser.
Finally, another thing that might surprise Zombie fans but actually shouldn’t is the fact that this film is very much going to stick to the family-friendly PG rating. Yes, the guy who brought you “House of 1000 Corpses” and “The Devil’s Rejects” is aiming to appeal to the younger audience by keeping “The Munsters” as family-friendly as possible.
A release date has yet to be announced, though the film is expected to this fall.
