‘Under The Banner Of Heaven’ Teaser: Crime Thriller Series Stars Andrew Garfield & Daisy Edgar-Jones

FX is behind the new crime thriller series “Under The Banner of Heaven,” inspired by the true-crime novel penned by Jon Krakauer. A teaser trailer has been released and gives audiences a vibe for the new series led by Oscar-nominee Andrew Garfield, playing a religious detective investigating a brutal murder in a rural community. Dustin Lance Black (“Milk,” “When We Rise”) is the series creator and will serve as an executive producer.

The rest of the cast consists of Daisy Edgar-Jones, Sam Worthington, Denise Gough, Wyatt Russell, Billy Howle, Gil Birmingham, Adelaide Clemens, Rory Culkin, Seth Numrich, Chloe Pirrie, Sandra Seacat, and Christopher Heyerdahl.

The show’s official logline from FX:

A devout detective’s faith is tested as he investigates a brutal murder that seems to be connected to an esteemed Utah family’s spiral into LDS fundamentalism and their distrust in the government. Andrew Garfield will star as “Detective Pyre,” an LDS elder who is committed to his Church and family but begins to question some of the Church’s teachings through his contact with a suspected murderer. Daisy Edgar-Jones stars as “Brenda,” a young faithful Mormon who is the victim of a brutal murder.

Garfield is coming off the success of his Netflix musical “tick, tick….BOOM!” and reprised his incarnation of Peter Parker from “The Amazing Spider-Man” films in the billion-dollar Marvel hit “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” This isn’t Garfield’s first time in the true-crime genre as he played a young reporter in the “Red Riding” trilogy, an excellent and moody exploration of the infamous modern British serial killer, The Yorkshire Ripper, alongside widespread police corruption.
