Got a Tip?

‘The First Lady’ Trailer: Viola Davis, Michelle Pfeiffer & Gillian Anderson Star In Showtime’s Upcoming Drama Series

Showtime is on a bit of a roll lately. Obviously, the network has series such as “Billions,” which is consistently lauded as one of the best shows on TV. But in 2021, you saw the debut of “Yellowjackets,” which became a big hit for the network, as well as the revival of “Dexter.” And this year, not only is there the new anthology series, “Super Pumped,” but we also get what might be the most anticipated Showtime series of the year, “The First Lady.”

As seen in the trailer for “The First Lady,” as the title suggests, the show tells the story of the First Lady of the United States, aka the President’s wife. However, what makes “The First Lady” all the more interesting is that it doesn’t just showcase one woman, but it actually tells three stories over the course of its first season, focusing on Michelle Obama, Betty Ford, and Eleanor Roosevelt.

However, a series about three historical figures isn’t enough to make us really excited for “The First Lady.” No, no, no. What puts it over the edge is the casting, which includes Viola Davis as Michelle Obama, Michelle Pfeiffer as Betty Ford, and Gillian Anderson as Eleanor Roosevelt. And rounding out the supporting cast, you have folks such as Dakota Fanning, O. T. Fagbenle, Kiefer Sutherland, Aaron Eckhart, and Judy Greer. That’s one hell of a stacked cast.

“The First Lady” debuts on April 17 on Showtime. You can watch the trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:

THE FIRST LADY is a revelatory reframing of American leadership, told through the lens of the women at the heart of the White House. In the East Wing of the White House, many of history’s most impactful and world-changing decisions have been hidden from view, made by America’s charismatic, complex and dynamic First Ladies. This series will peel back the curtain on the personal and political lives of three unique, enigmatic women, tracing their journeys to Washington through interweaving storylines with an enlightening intimacy, with season one focusing on Michelle Obama, Betty Ford and Eleanor Roosevelt.
