Got a Tip?

Tom Holland Says Villains Were Supposed To Be Hidden From ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Marketing

Spider-Man: No Way Home” releases this week, and there is already a heap of reviews out in the wild (read ours here). While we’ll be holding off on significant spoilers here, it’s certainly interesting to learn that things didn’t go as planned concerning the returning villains being part of the sequel’s marketing materials. But, it’s been revealed that the two studios had to scrap hiding because they were outed during the production and actor Alfred Molina confirmed his return.

Keeping character and plot details secret for massive blockbusters is getting more challenging and more demanding; this was highlighted by star Tom Holland while speaking with Yahoo! Entertainment UK, revealing that they never planned on showing off the villains such as Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, and others until the film was released.

“The initial plan was to make the film seem like a civil war between myself and Doctor Strange, and they were going to keep everything a secret. That is impossible,” Tom Holland told the outlet about the original plan to hide the Spidey villains from audiences.

In the age of spoilers and scoops spreading like wildfire online, it’s going to make things harder for Marvel Studios and other studios to keep secrets off the internet. However, you have to applaud the effort to keep things hidden for as long as they can. Or at least the attempt to have secrets, to begin with.

Things are looking bright for the future of Spider-Man on the big screen, as there are already plans to develop a second trilogy as mentioned by producer Amy Pascal and a report that an untitled “Spider-Man 4” installment is in early works. Suggesting that we’ll see plenty of future sequels on the way, along with a continued working relationship between Marvel’s Kevin Feige and the franchise team at Sony Pictures being a lucrative partnership.
