Shamier Anderson is an up-and-coming actor who you may recognize from the show “Wynonna Earp” and films like “Race” or Netflix’s “Stowaway.” He’s been steadily building a following a is seemingly ready to break out over the course of the next year with some high-profile projects. In this episode of The Discourse, Shamier Anderson joins host Mike DeAngelo to talk about his role in the Apple TV+ series “Invasion” which hits the streamer on October 22.
During our conversation, Shamier talks about landing the role at a time that he really needed some work.
“So, two years ago I received an audition for an ‘Untitled Apple Project,’ and at the time, I needed a job, so I just said, ‘Sign me up! I don’t care what it is!’ So, I did an audition and sent in the tape. Literally, two days later, Simon Kinberg (co-creator of ‘Invasion’) wanted to have dinner with me,” Anderson said.
While shooting the highly-anticipated sci-fi series, Anderson had to spend a lot of time in the desert and detailed the conditions that he, in many cases, put himself in to fully inhabit his role as a Navy Seal.
“It was grueling with so much beauty,” Anderson shared. “A lot of it, outside of the alien aspect of the show, I literally had the opportunity to be in the desert and feel the sun. I slept in the desert a lot of the time, I brought my uniform home.”
Anderson can also be seen in “John Wick 4” alongside Keanu Reeves and Bill Skarsgård. While he couldn’t give many details, he did note that his role involved “a lot of training” and that he “got to be in the dojo with Keanu himself.”
Finally, when asked if he’d ever take on a superhero role like many up-and-coming actors tend to get snatched up for, Anderson shared that he came “very close” to those roles already.
“I actually got really close to a film for DC,” he revealed. “I don’t want to get into too much trouble for talking about it, but it was a really close project. Something just announced recently — two of them actually. One was Marvel, one was DC. That process was amazing, and I met the filmmakers and I didn’t get the job, but I think I’m on their radar.”
