Remember “Blindspotting,” the 2018 comedy-drama indie that launched the careers of actor/writers/producers Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal? Well, in case you’ve forgotten, the film has been turned into a series by its creators, Diggs and Casal, who have gone onto things like “Snowpiercer,” “Hamilton” (Diggs), and “The Good Lord Bird,” “Bad Education” (Casal), respectively.

STARZ released the official trailer and poster today for the series “Blindspotting” series and announced its worldwide premiere on Sunday, June 13 at 9:00 PM ET/PT across all STARZ platforms in the U.S. and Canada. “Blindspotting” will also make its world premiere debut as an Official Selection of the Tribeca Film Festival on Friday, June 11.

The series isn’t a reboot and recasts many of the same characters from the original. Except now, the show focuses on Ashley’s point of view when Miles is imprisoned, and yes, Jasmine Cephas Jones is still playing that character. Casal will also serve as showrunner in addition to reprising the role of Miles in a recurring capacity. He will also direct an episode of the show. Cephas Jones, best known for originating the dual roles of Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds in the 2015 Broadway musical “Hamilton.” In 2020, Cephas Jones won a Primetime Emmy for portraying Tyisha in Quibi‘s “FreeRayshawn.” Here’s the official synopsis:

“Blindspotting” picks up six months after the film and centers on Ashley, who is nipping at the heels of middle-class life in Oakland until Miles, her partner of 12 years and father of their son, is suddenly incarcerated, leaving her to navigate a chaotic and humorous existential crisis when she is forced to move in with Miles’ mother and half-sister.
The eight-episode, half-hour dramedy will also star Benjamin Earl Turner, Atticus Woodward, Jaylen Barron, and Candace Nicholas-Lippman. Welcome to the ordeal. “Blindspotting” premieres June 13 on STARZ. Watch the first trailer below.
