If Netflix was going to have a golden night this award season it was going to be at the SAG Awards and, surprise, the actors came through. The streaming service took major honors including the Outstanding Cast in a Motion Picture for “Trial of the Chicago 7” and “The Crown” won for Drama Series ensemble for the second year in a row. Overall, Netflix won 7 SAG Awards categories announced during the pre-tapped ceremony.

“Trial’s” win made some SAG Awards history with Michael Keaton winning his third ensemble honor from the guild in this category. Keaton previously won for “Birdman” and “Spotlight.” Whether Keaton’s luck can help “Trial” beat “Nomadland,” which took the PGA Award and is expected to win the DGA, for Best Picture remains to be seen. It does breathe some life into their Best Picture chances, however. Over the past decade, only five winners in this category have gone on to won Best Picture, however. Those films include “The King’s Speech,” “Argo,” “Spotlight,” “Birdman” and, last year’s winner, “Parasite.”
As expected, Chadwick Boseman won the Male Actor in a Leading Role category for “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” Boseman previously won as a member of the ensemble for “Black Panther.” Boseman’s co-star Viola Davis won the Female Actor in a Leading Role. This was her sixth win after taking multiple SAG honors for “How To Get Away With Murder,” “Fences” and as a member of “The Help” ensemble.
In the supporting categories, Youn Yuh-Yung won Supporting Actress for her performance in “Minari.” Daniel Kaluuya put “Judas and the Black Messiah” on the board in the Supporting Actor category.
Those wins made history as it was the first time that all four individual SAG Awards theatrical honors went to winners who were People of Color.
On the television side, Jason Bateman took Male Actor in a Drama Series for “Ozark” while Jason Sudekis took Male Actor in a Comedy Series for potential Emmy juggernaut “Ted Lasso.” Mark Ruffalo won Male Actor in a Limited Series for “I Know This Much Is True” and Anya Taylor-Joy won the Female Actor in a Limited Series for “The Queen’s Gambit.” “The Crown’s” Gillian Anderson was honored with the Female Actor in a Drama Series award.
On the program side, “Schitt’s Creek” wrapped up its SAG eligibility with a win for Ensemble in a Comedy Series and Catherine O’Hara took Female Actor in a Comedy Series.
“Wonder Woman 1984” and “The Mandalorian” won their respective stunt category awards.
