Steven Spielberg & Duffer Brothers Developing Series Adaptation of Stephen King Horror-Fantasy Novel ‘The Talisman’ For Netflix

We’ve seen The Duffer Brothers homage multiple projects from Steven Spielberg in their popular sci-fi series “Stranger Things,” and they’ve finally joined forces with Spielberg’s Amblin Television and Paramount Television Studios for an adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Talisman” at Netflix

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that they’ve come together for a series adaptation of the Stephen King and Peter Straub novel have tasked “Stranger Things”‘ Curtis Gwinn to write, showrun, and executive produce. The outlet is clear to mention the deals are still in the negotiation phase and when they plan to begin shooting/airing it. 

Spielberg had been trying to make a film version of the novel before this new pivot to a Netflix series. It’s noted in the article that Steven Spielberg originally secured the rights to the novel back in 1982, two years before it was published, and has been trying to get a feature film adaption going for ages.

“The Talisman” focuses on Jack Sawyer, a 12-year old boy that sets off on a quest to save his dying mother. Jack is searching for the Talisman, which is a powerful relic that can save his mother and the world. During his journey, he crosses two realities, America and the fantasy world called The Territories.

It certainly feels tailored for everyone involved and it’s worth mentioning the Duffer Brothers once wanted to direct Warner Bros’ “It“, another popular Stephen King story featuring kids and the supernatural, but they were turned down by the studio. The sibling duo is currently busy with Season 4 of “Stranger Things.”
