Back in December, Marvel Studios, along with its Disney brethren, announced a ton of new projects coming to the Disney+ streaming platform. And while a lot of the announcements from Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios were already known and reported, there were a couple of big surprises, including the new series, “Armor Wars.” And now, just a couple of months after that announcement, it appears that Don Cheadle is about to suit up as War Machine and start filming the action series.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, where he talked about his new Super Bowl ad, Cheadle was asked about what fans can expect with the forthcoming “Armor Wars.” For those that don’t remember, Kevin Feige described “Armor Wars” as the series that answers the question about what happens when Tony Stark’s Iron Man technology falls in the wrong hands? And since Stark isn’t around anymore to fix things, that leaves the MCU’s other armored hero, James Rhodes, aka War Machine, to pick up the slack.

“It’s going to be dope,” Cheadle said. “We’re really going to have a chance to explore a lot of stuff about [James] Rhodes. I mean, you look at what we’ve done so far, there’s a lot left to be explored. So I think there’s a lot of real estate that we’re going to dig into.”
He continued, “It’s going to be just fully wide open. We’re going to start filming in a couple months and we’ll see.”
While we shouldn’t be too shocked to see that “Armor Wars” is going to begin production in a couple of months, it still feels like the development has been moving really fast on the series. Of course, even if Cheadle and Marvel Studios start filming this spring/summer, we likely won’t see “Armor Wars” hit Disney+ until well into 2022. No matter how quickly that show begins filming, it still is going to have to wait in line behind series such as everything coming after “WandaVision” like “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” “Loki,” “What If?,” “Hawkeye,” and “Ms. Marvel,” among others.
And as has been recently reported, Don Cheadle’s War Machine will be making his Disney+ debut in the aforementioned “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” series, which begins on March 19.
