The movie looks back at a grueling and emotionally-draining father-son relationship between the conservative Willis (Lance Henriksen) and his gay son John (Mortenson). Willis’ disapproval of John’s sexuality tore the father and son apart. But with a dementia-stricken Willis is at the end of his life, John brings his dad home to take care of him. With Willis’ illness amplifying his temper and intolerance, John is forced to relive his toxic relationship with his dad. Willis is too far gone to change his ways, so he and John struggle to live side-by-side.

Lance Henriksen (“Aliens“), Sverrir Gudnason (“The Girl in the Spider’s Nest“), Laura Linney (“Ozark“), and Terry Chen (“Almost Famous“) join Mortensen in the cast of “Falling.”

FALLING follows John (Viggo Mortensen) who lives with his partner, Eric (Terry Chen), and their daughter, Mónica (Gabby Velis), in California, far from the traditional rural life he left behind years ago, while his conservative father, Willis (Lance Henriksen), lives alone on the isolated farm where John grew up. Unfortunately, their best intentions ultimately run up against Willis’s adamant refusal to change his way of life in the slightest.

“Falling” is sure to hit home for anyone struggling with an aging parent. The film was the official selection of the Sundance, Cannes, Toronto International, and San Sebastian Film Festival in 2020. The film is set to arrive in theaters on February 5. Take a look at the new trailer for “Falling” below.
