Cinemax just announced the return of their action-packed drama series “Warrior” for a second season this October. The show, based on the writings of Bruce Lee, just debuted the first teaser for its second season, and it brings even more slow-motion fight scenes in the rain.
The drama series will return with ten new episodes this October. The show is executive produced by Jonathan Tropper (“Banshee“) and Justin Lin (the best “Fast and Furious” movie, “Tokyo Drift“) as well as Shannon Lee.
In a statement, Cinemax describes the show as “a gritty, action-packed crime drama set during the brutal Tong Wars of San Francisco’s Chinatown in the late 19th century. The series follows Ah Sahm (Andrew Koji), a martial arts prodigy who emigrates from China to San Francisco under mysterious circumstances. After proving his worth as a fighter, Ah Sahm becomes a hatchet man for the Hop Wei, one of Chinatown’s most powerful Tongs (Chinese organized crime family). Season two follows rival Chinatown Tongs as they fight for dominance amidst the growing anti-Chinese fervor that threatens to destroy them all.”
In our review of the first season, Andrew Bundy praised the show’s exploration of ethnic identity: “Capturing the feeling of marginalized cultural existence through a subjective fighting stance is “Warrior’s” top priority, and that alone ends up making the show feel worthy of Bruce Lee’s legacy.”
The second season of “Warrior” features returning series regulars Kieran Bew, Celine Buckens, Olivia Cheng, Dianne Doan, Dean Jagger, Langley Kirkwood, and more. New this season are Dustin Nguyen, Chen Tang, Miranda Raison and recurring series regular Maria Elena Laas.
