James Cameron Is “Disappointed” By ‘Avatar 2’ Delays, But Still Remains The Franchise’s Biggest Fan

Did you know, once upon a time a sequel to “Avatar” was supposed to come out in 2014? Fans will be sad to hear that “Avatar 2” has been postponed again, this time due to COVID-19 delays, but honestly, we’ve lost track of all the release date delays over the years. The director posted an official message on Instagram explaining that they will be unable to make their planned release date of December 2021. Prior to COVID-19 delays, Cameron was shooting footage for “Avatar 2,” as well as the third and fourth movies. While production has been delayed, Cameron has been very busy talking about how much he loves his movies. A recent Toronto Sun article quotes Cameron comparing the upcoming Avatar sequels to “The Godfather,” which is ambitious, to say the least.

The production does sound awesome, with a large portion of the second film using underwater motion capture technology. Improving on the visuals of the first film would be pretty impressive, but, according to Cameron, audiences will be blown away.

“I deal with images in that world every single day and there are some days when I look at those images and say, ‘This is really amazing,’” he told the Sun. “I’m not patting myself on the back with that comment.”

Sure, James, whatever you say.
