We’re in some kind of “movie stars in space” renaissance. It started with “Gravity” where Sandra Bullock became stranded in space. Then came “Interstellar” where Matthew McConaughey traveled across wormholes. In “First Man,” Ryan Gosling starred as Neil Armstrong, the first astronaut to walk on the Moon. Now, Brad Pitt is the latest A-lister to fly into space with “Ad Astra.”
After filming wrapped a few years ago and a few release shifts took place, “Ad Astra” finally gets to see the light of day. In this sci-fi pic, Pitt plays an astronaut who travels across space to find his missing father (Tommy Lee Jones). In addition, he uncovers a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet.
The film recently debuted in Venice and is soon to hit theaters, but audiences eagerly anticipating Pitt’s film can watch a new clip from the rather mysterious picture. Thus far, the aforementioned plot details are the only ones that are known. This clip might not reveal much of the mystery surrounding the picture. However, it should keep people intrigued about the mission Pitt’s character goes on. What does he find when he goes into space?
“Ad Astra” is also directed by James Gray (“The Immigrant“) who’s making his first foray into science fiction. Along with Pitt and Jones, Oscar nominee Ruth Negga, Liv Tyler, Donald Sutherland, and Kimberly Elise co-star. Meanwhile, Oscar nominee Hoyte van Hoytema (“Dunkirk,” “Interstellar“) serves as the film’s DP while Max Richter and Lorne Balfe both contributed to the film’s score.
“Ad Astra” arrives in theaters on September 20 and recently premiered at the Venice Film Festival.
Here’s an official synopsis:

9.9.2019 update: four new clips from the film have arrived.
