We’re never people that turn down the opportunity to see Isabelle Huppert act in a film. Whether it’s recent films like “Elle” and “Greta” or the dozens and dozens of other films the award-winning actress has released over the last several decades, Huppert is always a delight. And in the new trailer for “FRANKIE,” it appears that the legendary actress is back on her game again, this time aligning with filmmaker Ira Sachs.
“FRANKIE” premiered at Cannes earlier this year to critical acclaim (though our review wasn’t as kind). The film follows the title character, played by Huppert, as she gathers her family in the resort town of Sintra, Portugal and watches the drama (and a little bit of romance) unfold.
“FRANKIE” stars Academy Award nominee Huppert, Academy Award winner Marisa Tomei, Academy Award nominee Greg Kinnear, and regular ol’ Brendan Gleeson (kidding, of course). The film is written by Mauricio Zacharias and Sachs.
Here’s the synopsis:
Three generations of a European family come together in the fabled town of Sintra, Portugal, for one last vacation before the family matriarch faces the next, and last, chapter of her life. Over the course of one crisp October day, the fairy tale setting brings about everyone’s most romantic impulses, revealing both cracks between them, as well as unexpected depth of feeling.
“FRANKIE” marks a reunion of sorts for Sony Pictures Classics as it is their third film with filmmaker Sachs, following “Married Life” and “Love is Strange.” Sony Pictures Classics will release the picture on September 25. Watch the first U.S. trailer below.
