Marvel is bringing out all the stops for Comic-Con. Today in San Diego, the studio announced “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness.” Directed by Scott Derrickson once again, the movie will be released on May 7, 2021.
Interestingly enough, Elizabeth Olsen will join the cast as Wanda Maximoff aka the Scarlet Witch, which means finally a meeting of the magical minds of the MCU. Other details are sparse so far, but on stage in Hall H, Scott Derrickson suggested the movie could be Marvel’s first horror and said outright it would be Marvel’s first “scary” film.
Benedict Cumberbatch will obviously reprise his role as Doctor Strange, the master of the mystic arts.
Here’s what’s in Marvel’s press release and it’s more or less the same, but note, the storyline of the Disney+ show “WandaVision” will apparently directly connect to ‘Multiverse of Madness,’ and that’s pretty exciting. That storyline is rumored to be, FYI, a riff on the House of M storyline where Wanda goes insane and her powers go off the rails. How does the Vision connect to all that given he died in “Avengers: Infinity War“? Time will tell.

Feige introduced the second film in the “Doctor Strange” franchise, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” and called the director, Scott Derrickson, and star Benedict Cumberbatch to the stage to a rousing welcome.
In a surprise twist, Feige brought out Elizabeth Olsen, who also stars in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” and they talked about how “WandaVision”—the Disney+ series that Olsen will star in as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch—connects directly to the feature-film storyline.

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” hits theaters on May 7, 2021, and that’s Marvel’s big prime real-estate spot usually saved for its biggest properties, ‘Avengers‘ films, ‘Guardians‘ films, etc. so perhaps it’s now time for the Stephen Strange franchise to really step up to the magical plate.
