Got a Tip?

‘Creepshow’ Trailer: New Anthology Series Promises The Most Fun You’ll Ever Have Being Scared [Comic-Con]

If you’re a fan of classic horror films and their influences (meaning horror films that debuted before 2000 and the rise of PG-13 jump scare-laden affairs), then you’re likely familiar with “Creepshow.” The 1982 film features the collaboration between two masters of the genre, as writer Stephen King and director George Romero combined their talents to tell a series of tales that mixed over-the-top scares with just a dash of humor. Now, almost 40 years later, Shudder is reviving the film as an anthology series, and it appears that the “Creepshow” tone is still very much alive and well.

As seen in the trailer, “Creepshow” is still an anthology, but in the new tradition of Peak TV, the film has been expanded into a full series, where a variety of filmmakers lend their talents to tell stories that cover the wide array of horror subgenres.

Also, it’s shown in the trailer that the people behind “Creepshow” have not forgotten the original film’s roots, as Romero and King based the structure and story of the 1982 film on the old horror comics of the 1950s. Also keeping with tradition, it appears that practical effects makeup is utilized to its fullest, giving the series a more visceral, nostalgic look.

The series features actors such as David Arquette, Adrienne Barbeau, Tobin Bell, Big Boi, Jeffrey Combs, Kid Cudi, Bruce Davison, Giancarlo Esposito, Dana Gould, Tricia Helfer, and DJ Qualls. The first episode of “Creepshow” is directed by Greg Nicotero, who also serves as showrunner for the anthology. He’s probably best known for his work on “The Walking Dead,” but also worked under George Romero on films such as “Day of the Dead.”

“Creepshow” is expected to premiere on Shudder on September 26.
