Got a Tip?

‘Westworld’ Season 3 Trailer: The Mind-Altering Show Plays Outside The Park [Comic-Con]

Confused by the second season of “Westworld“? You’re not alone. Ratings dropped off precipitously in the sophomore season, but the showrunners heard you loud and clear. “This is season is a little less of a guessing game and more of an experience with the hosts finally getting to meet their makers,” co-showrunner Jonathan Nolan told EW this week.

So, with that and mind, welcome back to Westworld. Or rather, welcome back to reality. In the show’s upcoming third season, viewers familiar with the unrestricted Western simulation will finally reenter life beyond the park. The tense season two finale left Dolores at the height of her successful rebellion and escape to the real world. Now, with a host (get it?) of identities and memories to contend with, what will life look outside of the park? Luckily, San Diego’s annual Comic-Con is here to offer another glimpse into this frightening future. (And in the chance you’re able to catch “Westworld“‘s SDCC panel, the creators and stars of the show will be present July 20th to premiere the new trailer.)

Shooting for season three reportedly began in March 2019 and extended into the summer. Much of the on-location filming (unexpectedly, perhaps) took place in Singapore, so look out for the famous skyline in the new season! As far as the cast, a divisive debate has risen around which members will be returning to the next chapter and which will remain behind the park gates. Right now, it’s safe to say that leads Evan Rachel Wood and Thandie Newtown will be returning. We’re placing our best bets on Ed Harris, Tessa Thompson, and Jeffrey Wright as well. “Westworld” newcomers will include Emmy-winner Lena Waithe (“The Chi,” “Master of None“), fan-favorite Aaron Paul (“Breaking Bad,” “BoJack Horseman“), Vincent Cassel (“Black Swan“), Marshawn Lynch and Cleveland-born rapper Kid Cudi.

The “Westworld” crew has strictly divulged little regarding the third season’s plot or any of its new characters. Paul’s recent interview with Entertainment Online revealed, however, that his character will add “excitement, danger, suspense,” to the story. Show creators (and married couple) Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan have promised that the newest chapter of the sci-fi western will continue to explore issues of identity, mortality, and self-realization on a bigger scale than ever before.

Who’s ready to get real? New episodes of “Westworld” season three premiere sometime in 2020. In the meantime, watch the latest trailer to tide you over until then.
