Got a Tip?

Zack Snyder Is Developing A New Anime Series For Netflix About Norse Mythology

Zack Snyder has a brand-new project on the horizon. But unlike his upcoming Netflix film “Army of the Dead,” this new venture is breaking new ground for the filmmaker.

According to THR, Snyder has teamed up with his artistic collaborator Jay Oliva for a new anime-inspired series for Netflix that will be based on Norse mythology. While Oliva is the director and showrunner for the series, Snyder and his wife Debra will be involved as producers on the streaming series. However, even though we know that its an animated series about Norse mythology, the exact plot is still kept under wraps.

John Derderian, head of anime programming at Netflix, said, “Zack Snyder’s innovation in visual storytelling has pushed the industry forward and established him as one of the most distinctive filmmakers of his generation. We are beyond excited to partner with him and his exceptional team to bring the iconic characters and stories of Norse mythology to life in his inimitable style.”

As mentioned, Snyder isn’t new to Netflix, as he’s collaborating with the streamer for “Army of the Dead,” which serves as his first film since leaving production on “Justice League” due to a personal tragedy. That being said, what is new for Snyder is the realm of TV, where he has yet to dip his toes. We’ll have to see if the same sort of Snyder-isms (muted colors, slow-mo, etc…) make their way to the animated side of things or if Oliva will truly spearhead the look and feel of this new series.

This untitled series is the latest anime-inspired Netflix series to go into production, as the streaming service beefs up its animated content to better appeal to adults and those across the world. Some other recent high-profile anime shows that will be making their way to Netflix include “Magic: The Gathering,” “Pacific Rim,” “Altered Carbon,” and “Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045.”
