For months, we just assumed that the upcoming prequel to the ‘Kingsman’ film franchise was going to be called “Kingsman: The Greatest Game.” It seemed like a fitting title for the franchise, which had two previous entries, “Kingsman: The Secret Service” and “Kingsman: The Golden Circle.” But alas, ‘The Greatest Game’ is apparently not good enough. Fox has a much better title in mind, “The King’s Man.”
Yep. That’s it.
There’s not much else to say about it, really. It would appear that director Matthew Vaughn is ready to tell the story of the formation of the Kingsman organization by focusing on one man’s adventure. The King’s man, to be specific. The plot for “The King’s Man,” per Fox, follows one man who must stop a collection of the worst tyrants and criminal masterminds, who are plotting to wipe out millions. You know, basically the same sort of plot of the previous ‘Kingsman’ films.
Now, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the first mental association I made when learning of this new title. Let’s go back over a decade ago to the time when rappers Kanye West and Jay-Z collaborated on a song titled “Diamonds From Sierra Leone.” Maybe it’s just me, but when I hear “The King’s Man,” I’m reminded of the famous Jay-Z lyric from that song, “I’m not a businessman, I’m a business…man.” So, in other words, “This film isn’t a ‘Kingsman,’ it’s ‘The King’s Man.” I know, that’s terrible and I should quit right now.

The prequel stars Ralph Fiennes, Harris Dickinson, Daniel Brühl, Charles Dance, Rhys Ifans, and Matthew Goode.
“The King’s Man” arrives in theaters on February 14, 2020.
