While he’s enjoying this middle period between the momentous “Black Panther” release and the production of its inevitable sequel, Chadwick Boseman is keeping himself busy with projects outside of the Marvel Universe. The first of which is this new action film, “21 Bridges,” whose trailer dropped today, showing potential to be one of the most gripping action films of the year.
Boseman will also be busy as one of the film’s producers, along with fellow MCU alumni the Russo brothers. Boseman recently talked about the film at Cinemacon in April, speaking about his experience playing the character, the creative freedom he had with such an original role, and revealed more about his character. “He’s conflicted. I’ve always liked characters that have a film anti-hero, film noir-[like] aspect to them,” he said. “He’s a thinker and though he has to move fast-pace, he also slows things down and so, all of that was exciting for me.”
The synopsis: 21 BRIDGES follows an embattled NYPD detective (Chadwick Boseman), who is thrust into a citywide manhunt for a pair of cop killers after uncovering a massive and unexpected conspiracy. As the night unfolds, lines become blurred on who he is pursuing, and who is in pursuit of him. When the search intensifies, extreme measures are taken to prevent the killers from escaping Manhattan as the authorities close all 21 BRIDGES to prevent any entry or exit from the iconic island.
Boseman will star alongside Sienna Miller, Taylor Kitsch, Channing Tatum, Keith David, and J.K. Simmons. Directed by Brian Kirk (“Game of Thrones”) and written by Adam Mervis and Matthew Michael Carnahan (“World War Z,” “Deepwater Horizon”), “21 Bridges” looks like a palm-sweating awesome crime-thriller action film.
“21 Bridges” hits cinemas on July 12. Check out the trailer below.
