If it’s not clear already, and at the risk of repeating ourselves, Warner Bros. is resetting itself. Ben Affleck is gone as Batman, Henry Cavill is gone as Superman (at least for now), and James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” is said to be a reboot that will include only a few of the original members and actors. Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) is returning), Will Smith decided to opt out, and he’s been replaced with Idris Elba, and one more original member from the cast is returning: Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang character.

“We’re getting ready to shoot in a few months’ time,” Courtney told Business Insider late Friday while promoting his upcoming movie “Storm Boy.” “There’s not much else I can reveal about it but, yeah, you’ll be seeing Boomerang back for sure.”
Directed and written by James Gunn, “The Suicide Squad” is expected to wipe the slate clean, jettison characters and actors and act as what’s probably a soft reboot. At this point, it looks like only Robbie and Courtney will return unless Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) comes back and she’s one of the few fan favorites in the original.
David Ayer directed the original “Suicide Squad” in 2016, and while there were a few bright lights like Robbie and Courtney, the movie was widely panned by critics and anyone else, but hardcore DC fans and the film has one of the lowest Rotten Tomatoes scores of the DCEU.

Courtney is psyched he made the cut. “I’m happy; it’s going to be fun,” the actor said. “It will be different, for sure, but it’s going to be great.”
“The Suicide Squad” is currently scheduled for August 6, 2021. “Birds of Prey,” starring Margot Robbie reprising her Harley Quinn role in a spin-off, “The Joker” and “Wonder Woman 1984” will be the three DCEU movies that land in theaters first.
