Whenever we see Aidy Bryant in anything – from leading a solid “SNL” sketch to supporting the shaky “I Feel Pretty” – we always say, “More Aidy, please.” Hulu is granting our request with their upcoming comedy series “Shrill,” which finally gives Bryant the lead role we’ve been asking for – and that she deserves.

“Shrill” is based on Lindy West‘s hilarious and biting memoir of the same name, subtitled “Notes from a Loud Woman.” It follows West as she refuses to be the quiet non-presence that society demands of her as both fat and female, and she starts speaking up. The world does . . . not react kindly. Here’s the official synopsis:
From Executive Producers Lorne Michaels and Elizabeth Banks comes Shrill, a comedy series starring Aidy Bryant (Saturday Night Live) as Annie, a fat young woman who wants to change her life — but not her body. Annie is trying to start her career while juggling bad boyfriends, a sick parent, and a perfectionist boss.
Along with Bryant, “Shrill” stars John Cameron Mitchell as Annie’s boss and fellow “SNL” alum Julia Sweeney as her mother, which is a pairing we didn’t even know we desperately needed. Jesse Peretz (“Juliet, Naked“), Carrie Brownstein (“Portlandia“) and Gillian Robespierre (“Landline“) direct episodes, and if their past work is any indication, we love the quirky, character-driven vibe they’ll bring.

Before it releases all six episodes on Hulu on March 15, “Shrill” will have its world premiere at SXSW. Check out the first trailer and let us know what you think. Just maybe don’t be one of those trolls like Annie faces, ‘kay? We’ll track you down.
