Got a Tip?

Bryan Singer Will Reportedly Earn $40 Million From ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’

Bryan Singer has been all over the news in the last couple weeks for less-than-savory reasons. Film fans have been outraged that the director is set to earn $10 million upfront from his upcoming “Red Sonja” gig, and Singer has also been the subject of a new report that uncovered four new men that claim the filmmaker sexually assaulted them while they were underage. Needless to say, there’s plenty of things to talk about with Bryan Singer. But one thing we tend to forget is that not only is he the credited director for “Bohemian Rhapsody,” he stands to make a ton of money from the massive blockbuster.

According to a new report from THR, it’s expected that Singer is going to earn roughly $40 million when everything is all said and done with ‘Rhapsody.’ Almost all of that total is expected to come from backend deals that include profit-sharing and bonuses based on box office milestones. However, in light of the fact that Singer was fired from the production before its completion, Fox is reportedly looking into legal action to prevent the director from cashing out in a such a huge way.

As you probably already know, the director was let go from the production of “Bohemian Rhapsody” with two weeks left of filming. He was fired due to erratic onset behavior, which includes a reported argument between Singer and star Rami Malek that ended with the director throwing something. Fox was also displeased with what was, basically, Singer going AWOL, demanding to go home to care for his ill mother, but was later revealed to not be the case.

This all leads to the studio hoping that the dismissal is grounds enough to prevent the director from earning the backend money. The report says that what is likely is something more of a compromise, with Singer earning a fair amount but not all of the potential $40 million.

Either way, with all the controversy surrounding the director, he has to be pleased with such a healthy payday for his latest film, which is nominated for multiple Oscars and has already earned the Golden Globe for Best Drama.
