If you aren’t excited about Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune,” then you must be absolutely crazy or ill-informed. Based on the iconic sci-fi novel of the same name, the “Blade Runner 2049” filmmaker has hired an incredible cast to bring the story of Paul Atreides to life. And as if the cast couldn’t get any better, Villeneuve goes and adds Oscar Isaac.

Variety is reporting that Isaac has signed on to star in “Dune,” where he’ll play the father of Timothée Chalemet’s Paul Atreides. For those not familiar with Frank Herbert’s classic novel series, Paul is the son of a powerful family that has gained control of the planet Arrakis, which is the only source of the highly-coveted “spice.” Arrakis becomes the hotbed of political betrayal and intrigue, as other noble families attempt to gain control of the planet. Add to this, a healthy dose of metaphysical themes, and you’ll just scratch the surface about what makes “Dune” so special.
Oscar Isaac is probably best known for his recent stint in the new “Star Wars” films, which he closes out later this year in ‘Episode IX.’ However, he’s also had incredible performances in “Inside Llewyn Davis,” “Ex Machina,” “A Most Violent Year,” and his Golden Globe-winning role in the TV film “Show Me a Hero.”
As mentioned, Isaac joins a cast that already includes the aforementioned Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Charlotte Rampling, Dave Bautista, and Stellan Skarsgård. Muad’Dib only knows who Villeneuve will cast next, as the film is ramping up to begin production later this year.
Needless to say, even though Villeneuve has directed films like “Prisoners,” “Sicario,” “Blade Runner 2049,” and “Arrival,” “Dune” is by far the biggest undertaking of his career. We surely can’t wait to see what the visionary director has in store for audiences.
