Got a Tip?

Jon Stewart Hoping To Direct A New Feature Film Starring ‘Daily Show’ Pal Steve Carell

Jon Stewart is hoping to team up with one of his former “The Daily Show” pals for his next upcoming directorial gig.

According to Variety, Stewart is in the early process of developing his next feature film, titled “Irresistible.” The film’s plot is still under wraps, but the report states that it will be in Stewart’s political wheelhouse and will be a satire, based on his own original idea. And who better to team up with than Stewart’s old friend Steve Carell?

The report states that despite scheduling and financing yet to be worked out, Stewart is hoping to work with Carell on the film, with the Academy Award-nominee slated to star. For those not familiar with Carell’s early career, from 1999 until 2005, the comic actor was a correspondent on “The Daily Show,” where he quickly rose to prominence as one of Stewart’s best collaborators.

Of course, from there, Carell took his acting career to the next level by starring in the US version of “The Office,” as well as comedies like “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” and “The 40-Year-Old Virgin.” And subsequently, film fans really started to embrace the actor when he took more dramatic roles, earning rave reviews in films “Foxcatcher,” “The Big Short,” “Battle of the Sexes,” and the upcoming “Beautiful Boy,” which is getting strong awards buzz.

Stewart, on the other hand, has remained fairly low-key since his departure in 2015 from “The Daily Show.” He’s done a couple guest appearances on talk shows, but for the most part has stayed out of the limelight. “Irresistible” would mark his return to directing since he debuted in 2014 with “Rosewater.” While not a massive commercial success, “Rosewater” did get a fair amount of critical acclaim.

Obviously, there’s no release date for “Irresistible” yet, but the idea of Carell teaming with Stewart one more time sounds pretty great.
