Got a Tip?

Taylor Kitsch Takes Captain’s Seat In ‘Battleship’

Peter Berg has found the leading man for his upcoming board game adaptation of “Battleship,” and thank god it’s not Jeremy Renner. Instead, the appropriately named Taylor Kitsch will be taking the role Naval commander named Alex Hopper who is “wildly spirited” and “a great seaman but a lousy politician.”

Kitsch is perhaps best known for his long-standing role on “Friday Night Lights” and his recent turn as Gambit in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” He’s also got another tentpole in his forthcoming slate with a lead role in “John Carter Of Mars.” Kitsch’s agents must be very happy.

As for the film, which apparently won’t be in 3D (though we’ll wonder how long that decision will last), it turns the boring boardgame into in alien invasion pic about a group known as The Regents who come to Earth to harvest a power source out of the ocean and meet up with bad boys of the naval command. Explosions ensue. The film is set to shoot this summer, and more casting is underway with roles for the female lead and a Japanese commander still to be filled.

Update: Because we know you’re incredibly interested in this particular news. Tom Arnold has joined the cast as well according to… Tom Arnold.

  1. As if the movie didn't sound bad enough… I like Kitsch but firstly he's not very good when he has a lot of dialogue, and secondly he seems a bit young to be playing a Naval commander.
