Got a Tip?

We Adore Lynne Ramsay & Her New Film ‘You Were Never Really Here’ And You Should Too [Adjust Your Tracking Podcast]

Here lies another of our director-centric episodes… The incomparable Lynne Ramsay.

On this episode of Adjust Your Tracking, Joe and I gush about a longtime podcast favorite. Back in our early days, even before the podcast started, we bonded fast over Ramsay’s work, having a shared affection for this still underappreciated filmmaker. And so today we dive into all four of her features, with a heavy focus on her latest, the Joaquin Phoenix-led arthouse thriller “You Were Never Really Here,” rolling out to cinemas the next few weeks. (Read The Playlist’s glowing review here) We love this film and all of Ramsay’s to date. While she does make challenging, often emotionally traumatic films, there’s a sensuality and bold use of cinematic forms to tell stories from deliberate, fractured psyches. If you’ve not watched Ramsay’s films we highly recommend you dive in, as she’s one of modern cinema’s most exciting and gifted filmmakers.

LISTEN: Yeah, We Like The Film Too, But There’s Nothing Wrong With Calling Out “Isle Of Dogs” [Adjust Your Tracking]

Our next episode topics of conversation are still up for debate. A few possibilities we’re mulling over include, but not limited to the new Garry Shandling documentary on HBO by Judd Apatow (it’s great, by the way, far better than this Playlist writer found it, in my opinion); “The Endless,” the latest indie sci-fi/horror effort from up and comers Benson & Moorhead (“Spring“); or maybe William Friedkin‘s “The Devil and Father Amorth.” Tune in to the feed next week to find out.
