One of the more moving segments of any Oscars ceremony is the “In Memoriam.” This year’s was no exception. With a great performance of the Tom Petty song, “Room at the Top,” Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder honored some of the prominent Hollywood figures that passed over the last year. Unfortunately, some names were left off the list.
While the video montage gave mention to Hollywood greats like Jerry Lewis, George Romero, Roger Moore, Harry Dean Stanton, and Don Rickles, among many others, there were some big stars that didn’t make the cut. Actors such as Robert Guillaume, Reg E. Cathey, David Cassidy, John Mahoney, Jim Nabors, Adam West, and Dorothy Malone were just some of the names left out. Malone’s snub is especially egregious, and concerning, considering she’s a former Oscar winner herself, from the film “Written on the Wind.”

Other names left off the list were director Tobe Hooper, of “Texas Chainsaw Masscare” fame, and singer/actor Glen Campbell, who appeared in “True Grit” and was nominated for an Oscar in 2015 for his song, “I’m Not Gonna Miss You.”
Actor Bill Paxton wasn’t included, either, but there may be reason for that. Last year, he passed right before the ceremony, and was mentioned before the “In Memoriam.” However, he wasn’t included in last year’s video package, so many figured he’d be honored fully this year.
There’s no word on why these names were left off the list. It seems every year we have one or two names that don’t make the segment, but this year, the number of prominent names left off is especially alarming.
I’m guessing David Ogden Stiers-who voiced many of the classic Disney animated movies, passed too late for this year’s montage…
Wouldn’t David Cassidy, Adam West and Jim Nabors go into the Emmy Award “In Memorium”? They were primarily television actors.
They’ve said in the past they don’t include actors primarily known for television — that was why they claimed Farrah Fawcett was left out.
Eddie is a national treasure!
How could they leave out Bill Paxton? He wasn’t just a TV star, he was in plenty of movies.
I didn’t see Anton Yelchin!!
Because he died in 2016 and was in last years’.
I noticed a lot of technical people, costumes and make up, in the montage. I guess thet rate higher than actors.
Carrie Fisher isn’t in memoriam of Oscar 2018
John Mahoney. Even though he was in Frasier, he was in Say Anything and many others.
Is it possible some of those names weren’t academy members?
It is because someone (whoever is in charge of this) is not doing their homework nor are they keeping up with these things. It is sloppy work. Get someone who can actually do the job
