Despite lots of talk for years, even a couple of proposed released dates, it’s been pretty much impossible to get Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, and any director all on the same page for “Bad Boys 3” aka “Bad Boys For Life.”
“I don’t think we’re going to get [another sequel], not the way everything’s turning out,” Lawrence said summer. “Will is off doing another movie, and I don’t think it’s going to happen.” With that in mind, producer Jerry Bruckheimer is doing what the rest of the industry is doing with their valuable IPs — going to television.

A spinoff TV series is now in the works with Gabrielle Union to star and reprise her role as Special Agent Sydney “Syd” Burnett from “Bad Boys II.” “The Blacklist” team of Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier are writing the project, which apparently was conceived by Union’s management, which is actually pretty smart stuff for them to do for their client, especially considering her BET series “Being Mary Jane” is now ending.
No word yet on which network will take on the show, but there’s reportedly a lot of interest. We’ll see if this move spurs any interest on the movie side to get things going, but Smith in particular has never seemed to be in any kind of rush to return to the franchise. [Deadline]
