Got a Tip?

Shane Black Eyed To Direct Hobbs & Shaw ‘Fast And Furious’ Spinoff

It must really pain Vin Diesel that he’s no longer the bright, shiny center of his baby — the “Fast and Furious” franchise. After this summer’s “The Fate Of The Furious,” the call went out among fans for more of Hobbs and Shaw, the characters played by Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. Well, Universal has heard them loud and clear and they are making it happen.

The studio has pegged July 26, 2019 for the release of an untitled spinoff featuring the two actors, and the creative wheels are starting to spin hard. Franchise veteran Chris Morgan will be writing the script, and while there are no story details, does it even matter? It’s going to be a whole movie of The Rock and Statham doing ridiculous shit. I’ve never even seen a “Fast and Furious” movie, and I’m kinda excited about it. Even more, Variety reports that Shane Black (“The Nice Guys,” next year’s “The Predator“) is already being tossed around as a candidate to direct. Not too shabby, though we’d prefer he work on something he also wrote instead.

But not everyone is happy about the latest developments in the “Fast and Furious” world. The spinoff has pushed the planned “Fast and Furious 9” from 2019 to April 10, 2020 and Tyrese Gibson is upset. He takes direct aim at The Rock for hijacking the franchise, and takes a swipe at this summer’s flop “Baywatch.” This might be the most anyone has ever paid attention to Tyrese Gibson about anything.

  1. I honestly don’t think he’d do it if he couldn’t rewrite it. At the very least rewrite all the dialogue. But he and Dwayne were supposed to do Doc Savage together so it’s not totally impossible.
