Got a Tip?

‘It’ Director’s Cut In The Works

Everyone has flipped for “It,” the first half of the two-part adaptation of Stephen King‘s epic novel, but bear with me while I drop a #hottake. The horror movie is certainly well made, and has some great moments of terror, but the constant comic relief nearly kills it. “Stranger Things” star Finn Wolfhard is tasked with dropping a one-liner every five minutes and it constantly undercuts any attempts to build dread, it’s the worst element of the movie, and keeps “It” from being truly great. But a longer cut of the film would pack more scares, right? Well….

Speaking with Yahoo Movies, producer Barbara Muschietti confirmed that Warner Bros. just gave them the green light to make a director’s cut for DVD and Blu-ray, but it doesn’t sound like there will be much more Pennywise packed in.

“There’s a great scene, it’s a bit of a payoff of the Stanley Uris plot which is the bar mitzvah, where he delivers a speech against all expectations… it’s basically blaming all the adults of Derry , and it has a great resolution. … Maybe it will be in the director’s cut!” director Andy Muschietti teased.

He also said there’s a “very funny” extended version of the quarry scene, where the Losers Club work up the courage to jump off the cliff, before Beverly dives in first.

It’ll “probably [be] an extra 15 minutes for hardcore fans,” the director said, but don’t fans want to see more Pennywise? Guess we’ll find out when “It” lands on home video. There’s no date yet, but it’s expected to be in your hands by the end of the year.

  1. No, fans want it to be more character development and as a fan of the novel I wanted to see more Stan and Mike so yeah if the director’s cut has more Stan in it I’ll be happy. I think Pennywise is in this movie more than he is in the entire novel.
