Got a Tip?

New Line Scares Up ‘The Conjuring 3’

While “The Accountant” might’ve been the sequel surprise of the day, there’s no big shock with this news. “The Conjuring” is a mega horror franchise for New Line (who are under the Warner Bros. umbrella) and, naturally, they’re going to keep that train going as long as they can.

Deadline reports that “The Conjuring 2” writer David Leslie Johnson has been reupped to pen “The Conjuring 3.” However, while James Wan directed the first two hugely successful installments (nearly $640 million worldwide), he’s not expected to return behind the camera, but will instead executive produce. This is the latest chapter in New Line’s growing stable of films in the series, which includes spinoffs like this summer’s “Annabelle: Creation,” and the forthcoming “The Nun,” and the brewing “The Crooked Man.”

No word yet if Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will be back, but I’d assume the studio will want those key players involved again. But either way, this franchise shows no sign of slowing down.
