Got a Tip?

Jesse Eisenberg, Mackenzie Davis, Carrie Brownstein, Sandra Bullock & More Line Up New Projects

While prestigious films make their debut at Cannes, in the basement of the Palais, the marketplace is where new projects are being announced and shopped around. It’s hard to keep to keep up with all of them, but here are some of the latest highlights:

While it’s not the six-film action pantomimes franchise we were hoping for, you do want to see a movie about the world’s greatest mime, right? Well, Jesse Eisenberg will play the legendary French mime Marcel Marceau in the film, “Resistance,” centering on the artist’s involvement in the resistance in the WWII. Evidently the film will be in the vein of “Life Is Beautiful,” in which mixed humor and heart in a story about the Holocaust. Jonathan Jakubowicz (the boxing drama “Hands Of Stone” starring Edgar Ramirez and Robert De Niro) will direct from his screenplay. [Screen Daily]

The idea of Eva Green and Gemma Arterton on screen together is a tantalizing offer. Unfortunately, we won’t be seeing them as first announced in the Virginia Woolf biopic/relationship drama “Vita & Virginia” about the famous author and her passionate love affair with socialite Vita Sackville-West. Green has left the project, but fear not, the talented Andrea Riseborough is stepping in and taking over. [Daily Mail]

Multi-hyphenate Carrie Brownstein can seemingly do it all. She’s rocked out as the founding member of indie rockers Sleater-Kinney, she’s an actor and seriously great comedian on “Portlandia,” and a novelist. Add filmmaker to her CV: Browstein will make her directorial debut with MGM’s “Fairy Godmother,” a comic revisionist look at the classic fairy tale. [Deadline]

Halt And Catch Fire” star Mackenzie Davis is a Playlist favorite because the up-and-coming actress is great in everything she does. We’ll see her next in the sci-fi thriller “Vivarium.” Lorcan Finnegan (“Without Name“) will direct the rather crazy story about a couple, looking for a starter home, who find themselves trapped in a maze of identical houses and forced to raise an otherworldly child. Is this actually a movie about the horrors of renting and buying a home? [Deadline]

We can barely remember her role in the film, but Sally Hawkins from “Godzilla” will return for the sequel, “Godzilla: King Of The Monsters.” [THR]

Wasn’t Alec Baldwin the head of the CIA in “Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation”? Well, apparently there’s a new CIA chief in town and she’s going to be played by Angela Bassett in “Mission: Impossible 6.” [Variety]

Sandra Bullock will star in and get paid by the “Cash Truck.” That’s all you really need to know. [Deadline]
