Director Susanne Bier Says ‘The Night Manager’ Season 2 In The Works

British TV miniseries “The Night Manager” will be returning for a second season. Director Susanne Bier, who won an Emmy for the acclaimed series, confirmed that a script is in the works for the BBC and AMC show.

The series follows Jonathan Pine, played by Tom Hiddleston, who is hired by British intelligence to infiltrate an arms dealer’s inner circle. The former soldier turned hotel night manager must bring Richard Onslow Roper (Hugh Laurie) and his criminal empire down. While there have been plenty of TV shows and movies based on the work of John Le Carré, this would be the first time anything has extended past the source material.

“We all very much want to do a season two but the thing we absolutely do not want is to do something that does not live up to the level of season one. That would be a really bad idea,” she told Screen Daily.

It’s currently unclear whether or not screenwriter David Farr will be involved in the script, but he’s previously said he’s happy with how things were resolved, and wasn’t particularly interested in doing more.

Bier has received a slew of new projects following her success of “The Night Manager.” The director is currently working on a 10-part TV series based on the memoir and Oscar-winning film “Out of Africa.”

  1. Is is me or was this boring and predicable? It also suffered from plausibility issues which are usually not the case for LeCarre. The idea that a rich maniac would readily accept a random stranger into his inner circle was ludicrous.
