It might be hard to choose among our selections of 12 Film To See In November, but one you’ll probably want to put near the top of the list is Kenneth Lonergan‘s “Manchester By The Sea.” Since its debut at the Sundance Film Festival, the stirring drama has had Oscar written all over it, and not only is it one of the best movies of the year, it features one of the best performances of the year from Casey Affleck.
The story revolves around Lee Chandler, a man who is forced to face his tragic past when his brother suddenly passes away, leaving Lee the guardian of his teenage nephew, Patrick. The situation upends Lee’s life, and Affleck hits every note the screenplay requires perfectly.
“It’s a very special performance for Casey,” Lonergan told the Boston Herald. “He plays a guy who’s been through pretty much the worst of the worst. He brings immense emotion into it; real truthfulness and sadness as well as a good sense of humor, which is one of the things that sustains him. When the camera catches the expression in his face, it’s real emotional depth and very compelling.”
Check out two new clips below, but *warning, you might want to skip the second scene until you see the movie.* “Manchester By The Sea” opens on November 18th.
