Got a Tip?

It’s Game On For Michael Fassbender In New Trailer For ‘Assassin’s Creed’

The team behind “Assassin’s Creed” don’t want the video game to be, well, your average video game movie. The genre has very few films worth talking about, but director Justin Kurzel, who previously worked with leading duo Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard on “Macbeth,”  brought something into the upcoming movie that we didn’t think we’d see in a blockbuster tied to a massive game franchise: subtitles. That’s right, for the portions of the movie set in the 15th century, you’re gonna have to read.

“I just love the fact [production company] New Regency embraced it,” the director told Total Film. “We did play around with English as well, but it was really obvious what you wanted as soon as you went back and started speaking beautiful Spanish. It really adds an exoticness and richness to the film.”

Also featuring Jeremy Irons, Ariane Labed, Michael K. Williams and Brendan Gleeson, the ambitious movie jumps between future and past to tell the story of a man who learns his mercenary genetic history. Here’s the official synopsis:

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

“Assassin’s Creed” opens on December 21st.
