It got a fraction of the attention that most other TV series got, partly because it aired on the relatively obscure Pivot network in the U.S. but we really dug “Fortitude” last year. A sort of collision of a “Twin Peaks”-style mystery and a Scandi-noir thriller like “The Killing” or “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,” but without that description quite doing it justice. It revolved around the investigation of a murder in a fictional, part English, part Norwegian community in the Arctic Circle.

Created by Simon Donald, the show had a terrific cast, led by Stanley Tucci, Michael Gambon, Christopher Eccleston, Jessica Raine, Richard Dormer, Sofie Gråbøl and Johnny Harris, and maintained a weird tone that made it not quite like anything else on the TV. Ratings weren’t huge, but a new season was nevertheless commissioned, and the first trailer has arrived.
Plot details are thin on the ground, but surviving cast members will be back, while Dennis Quaid is the token American this time along, with “Game Of Thrones” star Michelle Fairley, “Misfits” actor Robert Sheehan, “E.R.” vet Parminder Nagra, and “The Hobbit”’s Ken Stott also new to the cast.
