Got a Tip?

Anton Yelchin And Jennifer Lawrence To Reunite On Drake Doremus’ ‘Like Crazy’

After working together on Jodie Foster’s “The Beaver,” talented young thesps Anton Yelchin and Jennifer Lawrence are set to reunite in the upcoming indie-drama “Like Crazy” from writer-director Drake Doremus.

No details of the film have yet been unveiled but, doing press rounds for his recent Sundance pic “Douchebag,” Doremus did reveal that he was hoping to move one of two scripts into production imminently. The first script, titled “Captain,” is described as a dark tale about a con-man who sells cremations at sea and could be the project in question but the casting of Yelchin and Lawrence leads us to believe that the film may be a retitled version of Doremus’ second script: an adaptation of Andrew Auseon’s “Funny Little Monkey.”

That story is a coming-of-age tale about an abnormally short high schooler who teams with the leader of a rebellious gang to get revenge on his taller twin for their constant verbal and physical battles. There’s also a wealthy, overachieving new female student who serves as the protagonist’s love interest – this could very well be Lawrence’s potential role. While Yelchin doesn’t exactly fit the “abnormally short” description of the lead role, a review of Doremus and co-scribe Lindsay Stidham’s adaptation from author Auseon did note that they had created “a new version of the story that still felt like, well… the story.”

Shooting on “Like Crazy” will begin early next month in what will be Doremus’ first opportunity to work with “bigger” name talent after his latest effort, “Douchebag,” earned warm reviews from its Sundance run — the same festival which saw Lawrence break out in “Winter’s Bone.”
