Got a Tip?

Cannes Film Festival Adds Asghar Farhadi’s ‘The Salesman’ To Competition Lineup, Mel Gibson’s ‘Blood Father’ And More

The SalesmanAs if the Cannes Film Festival lineup wasn’t stacked enough, organizers today have added seven more films across their various programming slots, and it’s going to be a great year for those descending on the Croisette next month.

The biggest addition by far is Asghar Farhadi‘s "The Salesman." The latest from the director of "A Separation" and "The Past" follows Emad and Rana, who are forced out of their apartment due to dangerous work on a neighboring building, and move into a new flat in the center of Tehran. An incident linked to the previous tenant will dramatically change the young couple’s life.

Also intriguing is "Starred Up" director David Mackenzie‘s next movie, "Hell Or High Water" (formerly known as "Comancheria"), which has a script from "Sicario" writer Taylor Sheridan. It stars Ben Foster, Chris Pine, and Jeff Bridges, and follows two brothers, one an ex-con and the other a divorced father of two kids, who are facing the foreclosure of their family’s west Texas farm. They team for a skillfully calculated bank-robbing spree that puts them on a collision course with two Texas rangers determined to take them down.

Meanwhile, sliding into the Midnight lineup is "Blood Father," which stars Mel Gibson as a Dad out for revenge (watch the trailer). See all the additions below. Cannes runs from May 11-22.
