Got a Tip?

And The Secret Project That Paramount Is Casting Teenagers For Is…

Not J.J. Abrams’ “Super 8” as heavily speculated but rather the Bad Robot remake of Ronald F. Maxwell’s teen-comedy “Little Darlings,” according to Production Weekly.

The Paramount casting call targeting 13-14 year old Mid-Western teenagers has remained hush on what project it was casting for, leading many to hypothesize an association with Abrams’ just-as-secretive “Super 8,” a sci-fi throw back to 70’s Steven Spielberg films. However, the project in question is now reportedly just a remake of the 1980 Tatum O’Neal and Kristy McNichol-starrer which follows two teenage girls from different sides of the tracks competing to lose their virginity at camp.

Back to the drawing board for the theorists out there then? Or is Abrams simply using this as a facade for “Super 8?” Could he just be bluffing us? Or are we just over-analyzing everything? You win, J.J.

  1. Are you sure about this? Sounds like a double-bluff to me. Firstly, isn't 13-14 far too young for a film about losing your virginity? And if you read the casting scenes provided on the website, "Josh" has a scene in which he is upset about his parents getting a divorce. If that isn't a throwback to the Amblin films of the '80s, I don't know what is.

  2. No way in hell Paramount are going to greenlight a movie about 13-14 year olds competing to lose their virginity. Can you say 'controversy'?

The call-sheet sounds a lot like it's looking for a 'Goonies'-type group. This is obviously about Super 8.

  3. The call sheet was looking for 2 boys and a girl aged 13-14 but Little Darlings had 2 girl for the leads (about 15-16) with no male lead characters. If it's a remake then it's going to have a lot of changes, I suspect.
