Watch/Listen: Richard Linklater Extensively Talks ‘Boyhood,’ Reflects On ‘Dazed And Confused’ & More

BoyhoodThis weekend should serve as welcome respite to those of you that usually hate the unrestrained cacophony of the summer movie season—“Transformers: Age Of Extinction,” we’re looking at you—with not only the best blockbuster of the summer (read our review of “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” here) opening but also the release of the long-gestating time sculpture, “Boyhood.” Since the latter lacks both franchise recognition and CG apes, IFC Films is wheeling Richard Linklater around everywhere to talk up the movie and we’ve rounded some of his better appearances for you.

First up is the complete hour-long discussion at 92Y that Indiewire’s Eric Kohn moderated with Linklater and star Ellar Coltrane, which covers everything from the film’s initial financing to the first time Coltrane watched the completed film. If that’s not enough “Boyhood” talk for you, Linklater also stopped by Grantland’s “Do You Like Prince Movies?” podcast for a little over 45 minutes. In between all that, the Texan filmmaker stopped by Vice for some behind the scenes conversation, and Film4 to talk about the iconic “Dazed and Confused” and his thoughts on nostalgia for high school.

Lastly, a very short clip with Patricia Arquette and the kids has been posted along with a new TV spot that references the years that went into making the film through a photo montage of Coltrane through the years. The pictures are a nice subtle reminder of what a crazy achievement the film is. “Boyhood” opens in limited release today. Watch Linklater’s interviews along with the clip and new spot below.
