Got a Tip?

James Franco Bringing Chuck Palahniuk’s ‘Rant’ To The Big Screen

Rant James FrancoTo date, only two of Chuck Palahniuk‘s novels have made the feature film leap—"Fight Club" and "Choke." One is considered one of the most important films of the millennium and the other…isn’t. Meanwhile, James Franco‘s literary adaptations to date ("The Sound And The Fury," "Child Of God," "As I Lay Dying") have been a mixed bag at best. So, what will happen with the two combine?

Well, we’ll soon see, as Litreactor reports that Franco has snapped up the rights to Palahniuk’s "Rant." It’s all early days, and it’s not clear if a studio is already involved, if Franco will direct or act or produce or all three, but the premise is pretty wild stuff, as you’d expect. Here’s the Amazon synopsis:

Buster “Rant” Casey just may be the most efficient serial killer of our time. A high school rebel, Rant Casey escapes from his small town home for the big city where he becomes the leader of an urban demolition derby called Party Crashing. Rant Casey will die a spectacular highway death, after which his friends gather the testimony needed to build an oral history of his short, violent life.

Thoughts? In Franco we trust or should he hand if off to someone else to direct and stay behind-the-scenes? Let us know below.

  1. Korine would be a good fit for this book, but he\’s already directing The Trap and it has some of the same elements (crime, gang violence, etc.). Franco has such a huge ego, he will either want to direct or star or both.

  2. Palahniuk's best book IMO… It will be interesting to see how it turns out… Hopefully it will be taken more down the Fight Club path than the extremely boring Choke. So Franco might want to let someone else take the helm.

  3. Franco was extremely faithful in his adaptations of both Child Of God and As I Lay Dying, still awaiting to see The Sound And The Fury but very excited.

So, I have no hesitation and looking forward to seeing this new movie Rant when it finally comes out. I'm also glad that the author himself broke the story, meaning his backing Franco and I hope everything runs smoothly for a most successful project together.

Guess, I better read the book NOW.

  4. i respect the hell out of Franco, but so far he's yet to direct a movie that was anything special. in fact, he mostly seems to be churning out subpar films based on excellent subject matter at the speed of a straight to video schlock house. I hope he either takes his time to make it right, or brings on another director. Dude needs to focus on the Disaster Artist and only that until it's properly insane.
