A movie we hoped would appear somewhere on the fall festival slate—it seemed like a no brainer for TIFF‘s Midnight Madness or Austin’s Fantastic Fest—"Ex Machina" continues to be one that intrigues us. Not only because it marks the directorial debut of "28 Days Later," "The Beach" and "Sunshine" writer Alex Garland, but also because it rounds up Oscar Isaac, Alicia Vikander and Domhnall Gleeson to lead the movie. The first image arrived this spring, and now a tantalizing new look has dropped.
Moviezine has uncovered this latest look, which is an eye-popping peek at Vikander’s robot character. And the movie’s premise has some real potential for a great sci-fi tale, following a billionaire programmer (Isaac) who picks a young employee (Gleeson) to help him test out an AI-driven, female robot (Vikander) on his estate.
Again, no word yet on when we’ll see it, but the movie is already set to open in Sweden on March 20, 2015. Maybe Sundance?
Sounds and looks intriguing. Definitely looking forward to seeing this one.
It\’s dated for January 23rd 2015 in the UK, which would seem to augur well for Universal\’s faith in the film, as that\’s right in the BAFTA release window mix.
This "First Look" was in the latest EMPIRE magazine that came out at the end of last month. Still the film looks interesting and I like the cast
