It’s been a while since we’ve heard from “The Voices,” the macabre and joyously twisted crime comedy thriller, but Lionsgate do have a tendency to sit on the films they acquire from Sundance. And so arriving almost a year later from its premiere in Park City, the first trailer for “The Voices” is here. Directed by Marjane Satrapi ("Persepolis," "Chicken with Plums"), “The Voices” stars Ryan Reynolds, Gemma Arterton, Anna Kendrick and Jacki Weaver.
The movie centers on a superficially happy, but mentally ill man, who avoids taking his anti-psychotic medication and then hears the pro and con arguments for becoming a serial killer from his cat and dog. When he does start taking his meds and experiences some lucidity, he begins to realize his life is already more violent than he knew.
Our review from Sundance enthusiastically says the movie “navigates the line between the gruesome and the goofy with a step as nimble as a tight-rope walker going over a sea of broken glass. It’s an extraordinarily warm and funny movie about a likable schizophrenic murderer; it’s candy-colored and meticulously composed and yet also shiny with fresh wet blood.”
A new poster and a few new photos from the film have arrived as well. You’ll hear “The Voices” in your head on February 6, 2015. Check out the trailer below, plus an interview with the director Marjane Satrapi who describes the movie as "fucked up."
Trailer was out of sync for me…
